OUTSMARTING THE FEMALE FAT CELL: DO YOU NEED TO PSYCHOLOGICALLY PREPARE YOURSELF FOR THE OFF PLAN? YOUR “IDEAL BODY” AND SOCIETY
Now society is putting additional pressure on women. The latest ideal figure is still thin—but with muscles and large breasts. Help! Nothing short of plastic surgery and spending three hours a day lifting weights can accomplish that feat. Haven't we had enough? Let's let the fashion industry sell us the latest styles, not the ideal body.
Your personal "ideal body" is not determined by the media, the woman next door, or the weight charts. You have your own optimal weight that is influenced by genetics, body structure, pregnancy, and age. Your ideal body is not what you weighed at age twenty, even though you may have been told that this is a realistic goal. As you grow older, metabolism slows down and body shape changes. Pregnancy and menopause can also permanently change the shape of your body.
Your personal, optimal weight takes all of these factors into consideration. Optimal weight is the weight at which you feel the most comfortable, energetic, and healthy, a weight that can be maintained without your having to eat like a rabbit. Think about your weight goal:
- Is it realistic?
- Does it take into consideration genetics and age?
- Does it take into consideration pregnancy?
- Have you ever been at this weight before? If so, have you been able to maintain it naturally and without starvation?
If your weight goal and desired "ideal body" is unrealistic, you'll never be successful. Reassess your weight goals. Better yet, replace your weight goals with body fat goals.
